Collin Sekajugo, 28, is a Rwandan professional painter. Sometime back, he was invited in Nigeria to represent Rwanda, during the African Regional Summit & Exhibition on Visual Art (ARESUVA) competition. Sixteen African countries participated.

Sekajugo runs Ivuka Arts studios situated in Kacyiru district, Kigali city. He also recently founded ‘RwaMakondera’, a local dancing troupe for children. Below he gives a peek into what constitutes his perfect weekend:

In order to have a wonderful weekend, I must have enough time to relax. I love visiting museums and art studios. Whenever I have time, I visit art shops or take a walk around town.

My perfect weekend always begins on Fridays at around 7pm. I leave the studio, go home, and prepare myself for the weekend. I put on my weekend best and then get in touch with my best friends.

We go out; eat, laugh and dance. Kigali can sometimes be a bore. So what we do, we head upcountry and visit towns like Butare, Gisenyi or Ruhengeri.

I love Ruhengeri most because of its beautiful landscape and atmosphere. And of course, I love the gorillas and birds there.
Surprisingly, I’m not a fan of nightclubs, because I hardly get enough time. But on weekends, I love listening to music.
