Raissa Umutoni, 23, a third year student in the department of finance, is the Minister of Gender at the School of Finance and Banking. She has since 2006 been Vice President of the World Youth Alliance Rwanda chapter.

She is also a member of the Forum on the Great Lakes Region for peace building, as a member of the youth committee in her home area. She has also worked as protocol officer and in other capacities on official functions.

What is your greatest fear?

Betrayal.

Which living person ‘s do you admire most, and why?

My mother because she succeeded in giving us education and discipline. But, I also admire a certain Indian lady called Nancy; she works in the United Nations. She normally organises international events. I have had a chance of talking to her, and she has really inspired me in different aspects.

What is your most treasured possession?

My gold necklace. It’s a gift from my aunt.

What makes you depressed?

Hurting someone.

What has been your biggest disappointment?

Being the only girl in a family of five boys.

What is your most unappealing habit?

I’m so forgetful.

What has been your happiest moment in life?

Securing a scholarship university.

To whom would you most like to say sorry, and why?

My younger brother. I was so disappointed when my mother gave birth to him, because I wished to have a sister...not another brother.

When did you last cry, and why?

A minute ago. When answering some of these questions.

How do you relax?

Being in a quiet place and listening to pleasant music.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?

Living a dignified life style.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Being a hardworking student and at the same time holding responsibilities in my society.

What keeps you awake at night?

When I have a function to organise.

What are your future plans?

Upgrading my studies to a master’s degree, getting married, and being a mother of only three children.

What qualities would you look for in a man?

A man who is God-fearing, understanding, hardworking, and who cares for his family.
