The local rugby governing body (RRF) is optimistic about organising competitions starting with September as they wait for a green-light from the Ministry of Sports.

It is expected that stadiums and other sports facilities will re-open competitive action in September after a six-month hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

”We are waiting for the Ministry of Sports’ decision and hopefully by then [September] new cases for Covid-19 will be significantly low,” Tharcisse Kamanda, the RRF president, told Times Sport in an interview on Monday.

While some competitions will be scrapped from this year’s line-up, reigning champions Lion de Fer have said that they are keen on challenging hopefuls in the quest to retain the league title.

The 2020 domestic season was initially scheduled in March but it was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic that disrupted sport and all other sectors in the country and across the globe.

Meanwhile, the national team ‘Silverbacks’ will not participate in any international match or competition this year after Rugby Africa announced last month that it has cancelled the 2020 season.
