Editor,

I read your paper a few days ago and discovered that East Africa is to declare war on corruption. We cannot develop as a community, when we still experience corruption and public funds embezzlement.

Our countries are all affected by this ‘plague’ (though of course at varying degrees), and unless we put strong mechanisms in place to end it, we remain in trouble.

I therefore, recommend and appreciate the new initiative to end corruption in our societies. I say this because in some cases special commissions set up to fight corruption, end up corrupt themselves, hence rendering the whole process futile and laughable. The war on corruption was in essence long overdue.
