KARONGI — The American Refugee Committee (ARC) has constructed a new water tap for refugees at Kiziba refugee camp in the Karongi district. The water project, commissioned on Thursday, was constructed under ARC’s porvision.

Kiziba refugee camp has approximately 18,000 refugees according to UNHRC figures.

Speaking after the official launch, ARC camp manager, Ibrahim Kebe, said their mission was to ensure that refugees access clean water that can protect their daily livelihoods.

‘This water point has been constructed to solve many problems. Initially many women could walk for many kilometers to fetch water, but this has now ended,’ he said.

Ibrahim explained that construction of the water project entailed overcoming certain challenges among them being the topography of the area.

ARC, a UNHRC partner, assists refugees in tackling some of the problems they face.
