It appears like summer is here to stay, and there’s never been a better time to be outside. I don’t mean to imply that you should go outside; rather, I mean that The New Times is back with our specially selected spots to explore and take a breather this weekend from the scorching summer heat.

Music Show and Pool Party with Tanasha Donna

Kenyan model and singer Tanasha Donna will make her Kigali debut this Friday, June 21, with a music show at The B Lounge, Nyamirambo (KN 168 ST, opposite St. Andre). Tickets are Rwf20,000 for regular access, which includes five beers, or Rwf50,000 for a VIP spot with two cocktails. Groups can book a table for six at Rwf300,000, which includes two bottles of wine. The show kicks off at 6 pm.

On Saturday, June 22, Tanasha Donna will be at a pool party at B Hotel (Nyarutarama, KG 13 Ave, opposite the golf course). Entry is Rwf250,000 for a table for five, including two bottles of wine. Attendees will get a sneak peek of her upcoming album, set to drop in July.

Pretty Please

For those looking to party atop Kigali’s hills, Atelier du Vin (KN 3 Road, Kicukiro) is the place to be. They have been hosting "Pretty Please”, a series of events for Kigali’s nightlife enthusiasts. This Friday, June 21, DJ Sonia will curate the festivities and music from 7 pm till late.

World Music Day at Tugende Cafe

Celebrate World Music Day this Friday, June 21, at Tugende Cafe with a special Kigali edition curated by VolkanoFest24. This event celebrates the power of Rwandan women in music, featuring headliners Ingoma Nshya led by Kiki, Ikizere troupe, Binghi, and Itsmdnyt.

Enjoy an evening of cultural unity from 5 pm to 10 pm with free entry.

Kigali Women’s Circle and Kids Yoga at Kigali Wellness Hub

Bring your children to experience Kids Yoga at Kigali Wellness Hub this Sunday, June 23, from 3:45 pm. This engaging class combines yoga poses, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness activities tailored to children’s developmental stages and energy levels.

According to the organizers, "Through storytelling, games, music, and props, we make the practice fun and interactive,” promoting physical fitness, flexibility, strength, coordination, balance, and mental well-being. Entry is Rwf10,000 per child.

Later in the day, join the Kigali Women’s Circle beneath the full moon’s embrace for a unique experience of "sisterhood”. Women can foster connections through gentle movement, conversation, and rejuvenate the spirit with a tranquil sound bath. This experience costs Rwf5,000.

International Day of Yoga Celebrations

Yoga enthusiasts, practitioners of the ancient physical, mental, and spiritual discipline originating from India, are invited to join the global celebration of the International Day of Yoga on June 21.

Kigali Wellness Hub will host a Yoga in the Park session with free entry at Kimihurura Roundabout, Southside of the Park. The beginner’s class runs from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm, followed by an Intermediate Vinyasa Yoga class from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats, towels, and hydration.

Additionally, the High Commission of India in Rwanda will hold a Yoga Day celebration at Kigali Convention Center on Sunday, June 23. This event is also free to attend.

Rwanda Basketball League

The Rwanda Basketball League returns this Friday, June 21, at Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium. The action starts with APR facing off against Kigali Titans at 6 pm, followed by REG versus Orion at 8 pm. Admission fees range from Rwf3,000 to Rwf5,000 for courtside seating.

Solo Exhibition: Escape Within

Experience the power of art with Rwandan visual artist Senga Robert at his first solo exhibition, "Escape Within.” This exhibition explores the themes of personal healing and therapy through artistic expression and runs from Friday, June 21 at 7 pm to Friday, June 28 at L’ESPACE (11 KG 28 Ave, Kigali).

A Festividad Mexicana

Experience the vivid culture of Mexico with dancing, music, and mouthwatering cuisine at Lavana’s Mexican Celebration.

This Saturday, June 22, starting at 6 pm, Lavana (KG 28 Ave, House 68) will host the event. Free samples of Lavana’s newest Mexican dishes will be available for participants. Savor a range of foods, such as Carnitas, Tofu Sofritas, and Barbacoa Beef Street Tacos; Mini Tamales; Leek and Potato Flautas; Chicken Mole Sopes; Real Corn Chips and Guacamole; Churros with Chocolate Sauce, and more.

La Cachette Urban Kids Sunday Dance Party

Searching for a fun-filled Sunday activity for your children? Head over to Mundi Centre, Rwandex KN 3 Road, on June 23 for the La Cachette Urban Kids Sunday Dance Party.

Children aged 2 to 16 can enjoy dance lessons from the IMD Dance Group starting at 2 pm. The event also features a Kids Creative Zone and Bubble Stand by Mundi, games by Funky Monkey and Play Time, Kids Paintball by Fazenda, and a variety of delicious treats including popcorn, ice cream, sweets, cotton candy, crepes, and doughnuts.

Admission is Rwf5,000 per child, and they must be accompanied by a guardian.
