The local taekwondo federation (RTF) has received equipment worth Rwf20 million from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Rwanda.
Boniface Mbonigaba, the RTF Secretary-General, confirmed the development to Times Sport on Sunday.
The received equipment include tables, doboks (uniform), chest guards, arm guards, chin guards, helmets and matts.
"The materials will greatly help RTF member clubs,” he said. "We highly appreciate the Korean Embassy for the continued strong partnership in the progress of taekwondo in Rwanda.”
In a separate interview, Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) president, Amb. Valens Munyabagisha, also commended the Embassy’s contribution to the development of sports, and taekwondo in particular.
"Taekwondo is one of the sports disciplines that work best in Rwanda, we are confident this new equipment will have a positive impact on the performance of clubs and national teams,” said Munyabagisha.
Taekwondo was, in Rwanda, officially recognised by the Ministry of Sports as one of the national sports in 2010.
