Rwandans in Kenya on Saturday, July 12 hailed the 26th Anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation.

The event was held virtually to align with Covid-19 preventive measures that among others discourage large gatherings, and was attended by the diplomatic community in Kenya, friends of Rwanda and the Rwandan community.

In his address, High Commissioner of Rwanda in Kenya, Dr Richard Masozera paid special tribute to the Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA), the former wing of the Ruling Party RPF-Inkotanyi that stopped the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

Masozera also highlighted several achievements that underscore Rwanda's visionary leadership.

"Today 26 years after the liberation of our country, we celebrate that over one million Rwandans have been lifted from poverty, literacy rates are increasing, gender equality has been ensured, the country is secure and stable and continues to attract an increasing amount of foreign direct investment annually," he said.

Additionally, the High Commissioner applauded the excellent relations between Rwanda and Kenya. 

He said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Kenyan leadership, the government and the people of this great nation for the bond of friendship, unwavering support and partnership.

"This has enabled robust trade and investments, a shared vision and the people to people ties that have continued to grow stronger and closer over the years."

At the occasion, Ambassador John Tipis who represented the Government of Kenya commended President Paul Kagame for his exceptional leadership in liberating Rwanda and steering the country to a remarkable recovery.

He also noted that "Rwanda can count on Kenya as a dependable partner for peace and development in the region."
