The 2022 Youth Connekt Summit edition that is underway in Kigali has attracted over 9000 young people from different african countries.

The fifth edition of the Youth Connekt Summit kicked off on October 13, where thousands of young people from across the continent and beyond converged to discuss issues on digital economy, climate change, sustainable peace and security, among others.

Youth Connekt summit is a continental youth gathering with the goal of connecting youth with their peers, leaders, role models, skills, and resources to promote employability skills, access to finance, civic engagement, and enhance entrepreneurship opportunities.

President Paul Kagame and Kenya's Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua attended the opening of the summit and graced the opening at BK Arena.

During the opening session of the three day summit, a colorful parade of different delegates hit the floor dancing to different genres of music.Youth were in a competition to see who raised their country’s flag higher. The most melodious moments were when the DJ played songs of Kizz Daniel and Tekno’s Buga and King James’ Ganyobwe as the BK Arena vibrated in excitement.

While commenting on the summit ,delegates expressed their opinions ,Osvaldo Rey from Congo Brazzaville said that his most exciting moment at the summit is meeting his fellow young people who are in the tech industry and plans on initiating joint projects

With different nationalities, with different culture, but delegates rejoiced to meet as African youths to discuss issues on digital economy, climate change, sustainable peace and security, among others.
Participants look so excited to see how fellow African cheer one another at the Summit in Kigali. Youth Connekt is built on the belief that young people are trustees of the prosperity of our continent embedded in the agenda 2063.
Youth attending the summit highlighted the need to restore trust between institutions and themselves and to make policies that are more inclusive, accommodating people with disabilities.
Delegates shared their assumptions on the summit, Tsiky Tsiky from Madagascar, said she comes from a country of happiness and Youth Connekt offers that moment of optimism for positivism and a bright future.

In his address, Kagame focused mainly on the role of youth in shaping Africa as well as encouraging them to work hard. "As leaders, we must recognise that young people are our partners in our development agenda. We have a duty to listen to you and work with you." he said
President Paul Kagame, Kenya's Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua and UNDP Rwanda residence representative, Maxwell Gomera during a panel discussion. Speaking at the event Kenya's Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua testified that the best way to empower youth is to engage them and give them more space to learn and voice their opinions and needs and be part of the decision-making process.
