Rwanda’s professional golfers Emmanuel Ruterana and Jean Baptist Hakizimana are in Uganda’s capital Kampala for the Captains’ tournament.

The event, which starts this morning for the professionals, will be held at the Par-72 Uganda Golf Course in Kitante.

About 13 professionals are in the fray for the Shs 3m (approx. Frw 1m) cash prize.

"We have been working hard at the course and hope to play well in Uganda.  Of course we expect a tough challenge from the homeboys but we are ready,” Ruterana, who recently lost his BCR sponsorship deal, said.

The pair left for Kampala yesterday morning by road and had some time to acclimatise to the course in the evening and the whole of yesterday.

"It will do us a lot of good if we get some practise on the course for at least a day,” Hakizimana told Times Sport before departure.

Loyal sponsors Hima Cement have bankrolled the event to a tune of Shs 30m (approx. Frw 10m).

Amateur golf action starts on Saturday with over 180 golfers in contention.
