RUBAVU – The Director of Gisenyi airstrip, Robert Mugabe, has said that Rwandair is set to start flights from Kigali to Gisenyi town, in Western Province before the end of this week.
Mugabe revealed this recently after one of the Rwandair planes made a maiden landing in Gisenyi.
The plane had carried an evaluation team of experts who traveled to inspect the airstrip’s condition. He said that the evaluation was successful and that the officials found the airport with most of the necessary conditions that will facilitate flights from Kigali to Gisenyi.
"We have been rehabilitating the airport and so far, it has most of the necessary requirements. The airport has a modern fire extinguisher vehicle, and most of the airport buildings have been renovated,” he said.
Rwandair Michael Otieno, the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, said that the inspectors discovered that the airstrip had almost all requirements and that the company will soon start flights.
