Rwanda on Sunday, June 21 reported 26 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the tally of active cases to 367 against 359 recoveries.
In a daily update on the pandemic by the Ministry of Health, it was noted that of the new cases; 18 were detected in Rusizi district, two at Rusumo and 6 cases found in Kigali.
The Ministry also noted that the new cases include those detected from the community.
The latest update was obtained from 3,252 sample tests. In total, the country has since mid-March conducted 111,257 sample tests.
For the past few weeks, Rusizi and Rusumo have been the leading hotspots of new Covid-19 infections.
Since the outbreak of this pandemic in Rwanda, the country has increased her testing capacity, and according to Rwanda Biomedical Centre, Rwanda’s testing capacity has increased 15 fold in the past four months and has been scaled up across the country.
So far, Rwanda recorded two Covid-19 deaths
Though Rwanda’s confirmed cases are increasing daily, on June 18, renowned Robert Koch Institute announced that it is no longer considering Rwanda as a Covid-19 risk area, owing to the country’s recent containment measures against the virus.
