Rwanda on Tuesday, June 16 reported 24 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the tally of confirmed cases to 636 since mid-March when the country registered her first case.

According to the Ministry of Health, new cases relate to Rusizi cluster, as well as repatriated Rwandans.

The results were generated from 2,742 sample tests taken in 24 hours, during which period no recovery case was reported.

Since the end of last week, Rwanda recorded a surge in confirmed cases, compared to previous days.

For instance, in just four days, Rwanda reported a total of 129 confirmed cases mainly from Rusizi district in Western Province, part of which has since been placed under total lockdown.

Most notably, on June 14 the country recorded 41 new cases – the highest daily positive cases since March.

However, in the same period, Rwanda also increased the number of daily sample tests whereby the average of daily tests taken since June 13 to date is about 2,800, an increase from the earlier 1,000.

In total, so far, the country conducted 96,801 sample tests and reported 636 confirmed cases of whom 338 recovered and two succumbed to this pandemic.
