African representatives Petro de Luanda have been pooled in Group A alongside Spanish side Unicaja and Lebanese powerhouse Al Riyadi Club Beirut ahead of the 2024 FIBA Intercontinental Cup slated for September 12-15 in Singapore.

The Angolan giants were crowned champions of the fourth season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), after beating Al Ahly Ly of Libya 107-94 in the final held in Kigali.

The 34th edition of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup will take place at Singapore Sports Hub, and will for the first time feature clubs from all five FIBA regions. The group stages will unfold in a round-robin format and the two group winners will square off in the final, on September 15, to determine the 2024 champions.

The two group runners-up will clash in the third-place game while the teams that finish third in their respective groups will play for fifth place overall.

On September 14, the eve of the big final, the induction ceremony for the FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2024 will also take place in Singapore, in another first for the competition that underlines the global character of the September event.

The latest team to punch their ticket to FIBA Intercontinental Cup 2024 were Lebanon's Al Riyadi, who will represent Asia by virtue of winning the inaugural Basketball Champions League Asia title, on Saturday, June 15.

Elsewhere, for the first time ever, a club from Oceania will take part in the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, and that honor was bestowed on Tasmania JackJumpers, the 2024 champions of the NBL.

Petro de Luanda, the first sub-Saharan African team to win BAL, which is operated in partnership between FIBA and the NBA; Basketball Champions League Americas champions Quimsa (Argentina); Basketball Champions League Europe champions Unicaja (Spain) and NBA G League United (USA), representing the NBA G League, are the other four contenders.

The Group B will bring together Quimsa; NBA G League United and Tasmania JackJumpers.
