Kigali, June 10, 2020 - The Executive Committee/Board of Rwanda Insurers Association today announced the resignation of its Chairman, Gaudens KANAMUGIRE, the Executive Secretary, Jean-Pierre MAJORO, effective immediately.
The resignation follows an incident related to the perceived conflict of interest and unethical conduct by which the two officials mentioned above were involved in. The Executive Committee/Board after a thorough review of the incident determined that the conduct of the Chairman and his Executive Secretary fell short of corporate governance standards, the industry expectations and may damage the market reputation unnecessarily.
In order to ensure continuity going forward, the Executive Committee/Board has appointed a leadership team to share the duties of the Industry Association until a new Committee is elected. Those appointed include HODARI Jean-Chrisostome Interim Chairman, BAHIZI N. Alex, Secretary-General, and UWERA Beatrice, Interim Executive Secretary. As Interim Executive Secretary, Ms. Uwera will have full responsibility for overseeing the Association’s operations until a new Executive Secretary is hired. Ms. Uwera has been serving as Deputy Executive Secretary of ASSAR since 2015.
