Rwanda has on Friday, June 5 reported 10 more Covid-19 cases which, according to the Ministry of Health, are all linked to Rusizi and Rusumo clusters.

On the same day, two patients were discharged from treatment centres after recovery.

All these cases were drawn from 1,558 sample tests, as per the daily update by the Ministry of Health.

"The new cases relate to the Rusizi and Rusumo clusters, they have been isolated and contacts traced,” reads the ministry’s statement.

In total, the country has since the first Covid-19 on March 14 taken 74,068 sample tests of the pandemic and among those 420 were detected as positive cases, of whom 282 have since recovered.

Two people have so far succumbed to the virus.

Since Sunday last week, Western Province’s Rusizi district that borders D.R.Congo has been experiencing surge in community Covid-19 cases.

As a result, Rusizi’s busy town Kamembe has been placed under a two-week total lockdown.

Among measures being put in place to contain the spread of the pandemic in Rusizi district include banning public transport, dispatching medical teams and facilities in the area and increasing the number of Covid-19 tests being taken.

Aside from community cases in the district, other cases being detected in the country include returning citizens and cross-border traders, especially truck-drivers.

Countrywide, in bid to contain Covid-19, all citizens are urged to abide to Covid-19 preventive measures that among others include wearing of face masks while in public, regular washing of hands and self-distancing.
