The community of Rwandans living in the United States have donated $47,918.04 (approximately Rwf45 million) to the Government-established recovery fund.

A copy of the appreciation letter from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning to the Chairman of the Community indicates that Rwandans in the US diaspora donated financial resources to respond to the pandemic.

"I am writing to thank the Rwandan community in United States of America for your unwavering support in response to COVID-19,” Richard Tusabe, Minister of State in Charge of National Treasury said in a letter.

Tusabe’s letter was addressed to YVes Musine, the Chairman of the Rwandan Diaspora Community in the US.

In the letter, acknowledged receipt of the contribution amounting to $47,918.04 USD towards fighting the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic through social protection initiatives.

Many Rwandans from different endeavors have joined efforts with the government to support protection initiatives put in place by the Government to respond to the Covid-19 global epidemic.

The private sector has also joined the government efforts towards donating food supplies, essential materials and supporting the most vulnerable families across the country.

As of April, statistics from the Private Sector Federation (PSF) showed that its members in Kigali alone had donated foodstuffs and cash worth Rwf560 million, and the exercise was ongoing.
