Recent measures announced by the government approved the resumption of inter-provincial travel and passenger taxi-moto services in the country, except for two districts: Rusizi and Rubavu.

While there has been a steady rise in coronavirus cases in Rusizi, which justifies yesterday’s total lockdown, on the contrary, Rubavu has not witnessed a surge in Covid-19 numbers.

For Rubavu, there are currently no "Stay at home” lockdown measures.

However, not all is perfect in the district since two positive cases have been identified there in the last 72 hours, according to Rwanda Biomedical Centre.

So, the restriction of travel from the district to other parts of the country is key as medics are doing risk assessment, and finding out what to do concerning the situation.

"(It is) because risk assessment in Rubavu is still ongoing and (there is) no indication that everything is perfect, yet we have seen new cases of people who arrived from the other side of the border,” said Dr. Sabin Nsanzimana the Director-General of Rwanda Biomedical Centre.

Only cargo transporting vehicles either transiting or destined for the two districts are allowed to continue operating.

Rwanda has so far recorded 410 cases of Covid-19 since mid-March when the first case of the pandemic was identified in the country.

Of these, 280 have recovered, while 128 are active cases still being treated. Two Covid-19 deaths have been recorded so far.

The country has so far carried out up to 72,510 tests for the Covid-19 virus.
