Big guns through to last four

DEFENDING champion APR, National University of Rwanda (UNR) and Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) have all stormed the semi-finals of the first phase of the 2009 National volleyball league.

DEFENDING champion APR, National University of Rwanda (UNR) and Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) have all stormed the semi-finals of the first phase of the 2009 National volleyball league.

APR, who are chasing for a third consecutive league title dominated proceeding in Pool A after compressive straight set victories over St Joseph Kabgayi, Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) and debutants Umutara Polytechnic University.

UNR and KVC also sailed through in the respective pools. In Pool B, KVC silenced Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) with a 2-0 set win before pulling off replica wins over Ruhengeri’s ISAE and debutants Inyemeramihigo.

UNR also thumped Petit Seminaire de Karubanda 2-1 and Unatek 2-0 in pool C to set up a semi-final clash with fallen giants KVC.

CXR failed to make the most of their home crowd when they fell 0-2 to GSOB in Pool D. The other semi-final pits KVC with UNR.

In the ladies fray, reigning champions UNR will renew their rivalry with APR in the first semi-final while Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) faces Ruhango in the other semi-final.

The semi-finals and final are scheduled for this Saturday. Classification games are also scheduled for the same day.
This year, 10 female and 14 male clubs are in contention.
