MP Shogo Mlozi, who was one of the nine representatives of Tanzania in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), unexpectedly passed on in the wee hours of Thursday, June 13, at Mount Meru Hospital in Arusha, according to a statement from the regional assembly.

The EAC Secretariat posted on its X page, on June 13, that "it is deeply saddened” by the demise of Mlozi.

"Our deepest condolences to the immediate family, relatives, and the government and people of the United Republic of Tanzania. May her soul Rest In Peace,” the post reads in part.

The Speaker of the regional house announced her sudden passing noting that she was a dedicated member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Mlozi was serving her first term as a Member of EALA from Tanzania.

"She was a respected and esteemed young member of the East African Legislative Assembly, known for her unwavering commitment to serving the people of East Africa,” noted the regional house’s statement. It added that her passion in promoting unity and cooperation among the member states of the East African Community was evident in her work and advocacy within the Assembly and beyond.

Throughout her tenure, the statement pointed out, Mlozi worked tirelessly to address key issues facing the region, including economic development, trade, and regional integration. Her dedication to advancing the goals and objectives of the East African Community will be sorely missed.

"Mlozi's passing is a great loss to the East African Legislative Assembly and the entire East African Community. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” the statement reads in part.
