Rwanda on Sunday, May 17, discharged 19 more COVID-19 patients, the highest number of recovered patients in a day ever since the country confirmed the pandemic on its soil. 

This raised the total number of recovered patients to 197 against 95 active cases.

Out of 1,135 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, only two people tested positive for the virus, bringing the active cases to 95. 

This raised the total number of confirmed cases to 292. So far, no deaths have been reported.

It has also been a relatively optimistic week compared to previous weeks because, from Monday, May 11, the recoveries surpassed the active cases with the country registering just eight cases.

Recovered cases are now double the active ones.

On May 1, cabinet eased the COVID-19 lockdown, allowing most businesses to resume operations for two weeks.

A number of activities such as schools, bars, entertainment and social gatherings are still not allowed to operate.  

Globally, the coronavirus cases stand at 4.7 million. 314,684 have died as of Sunday, May 17. The worldwide recoveries stand at 1,843,882.
