The local athletics federation, RAF yesterday expressed complete ignorance about Dieudonne Disi’s intentions not to take part in the forthcoming World Cross Country Championship scheduled for March 28 in Amman, Jordan.

Disi, Rwanda’s most elite long distance athlete has opted to instead, participate in the Paris marathon due next month.
Rwanda athletics federation Secretary General Appollanaire Munyangoga told Times Sport yesterday that he was unaware that Disi would not participate at this year’s world cross country championship.

"We are just learning that from you (journalist), he has not told us anything yet but will be summoning him on Monday (today) so that he explains to us his reasons for not wanting to take part in the tournament,” Munyangoga said.

Disi, 28 won the national cross country trials event over the weekend clocking 37 minutes and 31 seconds beating his closest rival Simuceka John Bosco who clocked 37 minutes and 32 seconds.

Sylvain Rukundo, who was widely expected to put up a stiff test against Disi in the trials, did not take part as he claimed to be "very tired” as he had just returned from another competition in Dubai.
