Heavy rains in the Western Province delayed the finishing of the on-going second phase of the national Sitball and sitting volleyball championship over the weekend.
The two events which were supposed start Saturday morning and end the following day (Sunday), were delayed due to heavy rains which made it particularly impossible for the players to carry on.
Eric Karasira, the National Paralympic Committee technical director told Times Sport that they had no alternative but to abort the competition mid-way.
"We stopped the competition from continuing because we were particularly concerned about the players’ health, since it was raining heavily,” he said yesterday.
Over eight clubs are taking part in the second phase of the two tournaments and they include; Huye, Musanze, Intwari Kivu, U.N.R, Rusizi, Gatagara, Karongi, T.H.T and Nyanza.
Intwari won the men’s volleyball trophy in the first phase, while Kivu won the women’s Sitball trophy.
