Cassiterite alone fetched the country $31.9 million in 2008.

Natural Resources Development Rwanda (NRD) has announced plans of increasing production by industrialising its mining system.

The move will boost the company’s production of cassiterite by a 50 percent increase the first quarter of 2009.

Currently NRD produces 18 tonnes of Cassiterite monthly and officials said they are working towards 36 tonnes, in the Ntemba mining site.

The site also has a 70 percent Tin concentration which the engineers said is one of the best qualities in the world.

"We are to double the production since we have been using the ground penetrating radar that has detected the mineralised place,” Dr.Gustav Roethe, the Managing Director of NRD-Rwanda said.

Roethe was receiving the State Minister in charge Environment and Mining, Vincent Karega. Karega is touring mining companies to evaluate their performance and challenges in their daily normal carriers.

Rwanda’s minerals sector is a growing, dynamic and promising industry that has been a major export contributor and job creator for Rwanda, with $ 71.5 million in export revenues recorded in 2007.

Cassiterite alone fetched the country $31.9 million in 2008.  NRD-Rwanda is currently running Ntemba, Rutsiro, Sebeya among others.

Speaking to the journalists Minister Karega said that the mining sector is growing tremendously in just a short period.
