The country’s big four soccer giants open their quest for this year’s Lotto Cup this afternoon at Amahoro national stadium.
Local rivals’ Rayon Sport and Mukura will open the campaign at 2:30pm before APR clash with Atraco later in the day (5pm).
With fresh memories over last year’s 2-1 eviction by Atraco as well as being edged to this year’s Primus National league trophy by APR, the blues know how important this Cup is to them.
Meanwhile, the 5pm tie (APR-Atraco) is a repeat of last year’s Cup final where APR lifted the Cup after a slim 1-0 victory over the taxi-men’s side.
It will however be a big test for the league and Cup defending champions who come face to face with some of their released players.
Yousuf Kayihura, Jean Shyaka, Andre Lomami and Ahmed Luzinga who quickly signed for Atraco after being dumped by APR have a point to prove to their former club. On the other hand, APR have kept faith in their newly recruited youngsters.
"They are good and strong players and above all, show a great deal of determination and self confidence,” the club’s manager Capt. Eric Ntazinda said.
Today’s winners will clash in tomorrow’s final at the same venue. On top of awarding the day’s winner, Ferwafa will use the same function to officially crown APR as 2006-7 National league Champions.
Frw 4.8 million is at stake for the cup winner while Frw3.6m, 2.4m and 1.2m has been reserved for the second, third and fourth respectively.
It is also said that a number of European based stars are set to grace the two-day competition.
