East African Community (EAC) leaders have postponed an extraordinary summit earlier set for today, Wednesday April 15, following a request by the government of South Sudan, according to a communique from the EAC Secretariat, which indicated that a latter date will be communicated.
The EAC Heads of State were to meet via video conference to exchange on the regional response against the COVID19 pandemic.
They were set to discuss matters including the pandemic's fiscal, economic and social consequences in the Community.
Last month, EAC Ministers for Health and others responsible for regional affairs also met by video conference in a session chaired by Dr. Daniel Ngamije, Rwanda's Minister of Health.
At the time, all six countries were represented at the meeting that was aimed at sharing information on the COVID-19 outbreak, deliberate on the pandemic, and mapping up containment strategies to stem any further spread of the disease in the region.
The Ministers' meeting also aimed at developing a clear plan to mitigate impacts caused by the pandemic in the region.
