Project Management Institute (PMI) revealed on June 6 the rebranding of its flagship event, the PMI Africa Conference, now known as the PMI Global Summit Series | Africa. The change reflects Africa’s rising prominence in global business.
PMI is a leading authority in project management, dedicated to advancing the profession, positively impacting project success, and fostering innovation by connecting and building global communities of practice, capacity, and thought leadership.
According to the PMI’s statement, the rebranding is designed to align better with PMI’s global standards and provide attendees with a unified and interactive experience typical of major PMI events.
George Asamani, Managing Director of PMI Sub-Saharan Africa, emphasised the strategic significance of the rebranding, stating, "Africa is not just participating in global business; it is shaping its future. The endorsement of Africa’s potential at Davos and the inclusion of Egypt and Ethiopia in the BRICS group signal Africa’s rising prominence and increasingly influential role on the international stage.”
Asamani also highlighted that the evolving economic and political landscape makes Africa an ideal region for investment. He explained, "The rebranding of our flagship event acknowledges the continent’s emerging role as a hub of project management expertise and innovation.”
Now in its ninth year, the rebranded event, set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda from November 18 to 20 at the Kigali Convention Centre, will gather project managers from various backgrounds to share insights and foster collaboration. Last year, the event was held in Nairobi, Kenya, attracting over 700 project professionals from across Africa and the globe.
The statement added that as PMI Global Summit Series | Africa, the event will continue its tradition of advancing project management by creating an environment that encourages networking, dialogue, and partnerships. The summit will play a crucial role in shaping the careers of project managers and elevating the standards of project execution.
Asamani noted that the summit offers a unique opportunity for attendees to gain insights into the latest trends and strategies in project management.

Kayigamba added that hosting the conference in Rwanda is crucial against this promising backdrop.
