The Rwandan community in Senegal on Sunday, June 9, joined the residents of Ngor Island for a tree planting exercise organised as part of the Environment Week.
The initiative, known as "Set-Sétal,” saw the Ngor residents and the Rwandan community, led by the Rwandan Ambassador to Senegal Jean Pierre Karabaranga, engage in various activities focused on environmental cleanliness and sustainability, including a tree planting campaign on Ngor Island, demonstrating a shared commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the island.

The event also included educational sessions on waste management and environmental preservation, aiming to instil sustainable practices among the residents. The tree planting on Ngor Island is expected to enhance the island’s ecosystem and provide long-term environmental benefits and community well-being.
In his remarks during the event, Amb. Karabaranga emphasized the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation and stressed the need to foster the collaboration between the Rwandan community and the Senegalese people.
"This collaboration is a testament to the strong bond between the people of Rwanda and Senegal. By working together, we can achieve a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations,” Karabaranga said.

Mayor of Ngor, Magueye Ndiaye, expressed his appreciation for the participation and support from the Rwandan community.
"The presence and efforts of Ambassador Karabaranga and his fellow Rwandans have significantly contributed to our mission of maintaining a clean and beautiful Ngor,” Ndiaye said.
"The tree planting on Ngor Island is a vital step towards our environmental sustainability goals. This partnership sets a positive example for other communities."
