Rwanda National Police will issue stickers for cars of essential service providers during the lockdown to ease their movement.

The stickers, according Police Spokesperson, Commissioner of Police John Bosco Kabera, will be like a permission for people to drive unhindered, hence reducing congestion and police stops on roads.

This comes after the police announcement on Twitter, to not condone unnecessary movement of people amidst the ongoing lockdown imposed to curtail the spread of coronavirus, which has afflicted many countries including Rwanda.

Speaking to The New Times on Monday, March 23, Kabera said some had already been given the stickers earlier on.

The lockdown, which was announced by the Prime Minister, went into force on Sunday, March 22

"We are issuing stickers to facilitate movement of essential service providers, as mentioned in the Prime Minister's announcement. They will also minimize abuse; some people lie where they are going."

Essential service providers are those involved in health care, food supplies, security, banking and media among others.

Rwanda has so far registered 19 cases of coronavirus, all of whom the ministry has said in a previous statement were responding well to treatment.
