NORTHERN PROVINCE

MUSANZE — Network breakdown has affected banking operations in Ruhengeri town for the second time within a period of one month.

Disappointed clients of different banks have appealed to their banks to find an immediate solution to address the problem which has persisted for the last five days since Monday.

Banks have had to shut down due to lack of network connection which enables them to access accounts for their clients.

The network is provided by Rwandatel S.A which offers a leased line network through which upcountry branches for a host of  banks can access the main server in Kigali, which is used to undertake various forms of transactions.

A manager of Bank of Kigali in Musanze, Daniel Nsengiyera, said that the break down of the system connection affects the functioning of his branch since they are unable to  access critical items such as client account statements.

Consequently long queues could be witnessed  at different banks since Monday as clients made frantic efforts to make withdrawals.

Rwandatel’s Public relations officer, Cleophas Kabasita earlier attributed the problem to a technical hitch emanating from the upgrading of the system, which reportedly led to some upcountry branches losing connection.

BCR was the only bank which remained operational due to the fact that they use a new MTN connection.
