The Japanese embassy on Tuesday signed a grant agreement with two NGOs amounting to UD$173,639 (approx Rwf972m) under the Grant Assistance to Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The two recipient organisations will share the grant to help implement projects relating to health, infrastructure and accessibility of educational opportunities.

According to the agreement, Association pour l’Education et la Prise en Charge des Enfants en Situation Dificile (AEPESD-TABARA) was allocated US$85, 784 (Approx. Rwf48m ); while Evalise Vivante Nyagatare Parents was allocated an amount of US$ 87,855(Approx. Rwf 49m).

Speaking at the signing of the grant contract, the Japanese Ambassador to Rwanda, Shigeo Iwatani, called on the two organisations to effectively use the funds saying that, "we nominated the projects because they serve the interests of the local people.”

He added; "we have seen significant progress in Rwanda – a country that has grown from ruins to become a global case study for good leadership and proper management of public resources.”

Meanwhile, AEPESD-TABARA will use the grant aid to improve existing health infrastructures at Cyanika.

The NGO is expected to construct a dispensary block in order to extend the services that are not provided at the current facility. The new services include a laboratory, HIV/Aids counselling and testing, maternal services, among others.

While, Evalise Vivante Nyagatare Parents is expected to utilize the grant to provide more educational opportunities, to children in Nyagatare Distric, Eastern Province by constructing more classrooms and establishing sanitary facilities.

The government of Japan funded the projects through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.
