The Rwanda National Police have outlined safety precautions for the public with temporary closure of some major roads ahead of the 2024 Kigali Peace Marathon scheduled for Sunday, June 9.
The annual sports event, which is in its 19th edition, is organised by the Rwanda Athletcis Federation (RAF) in partnership with the Ministry of Sports, to promote peace and athletic excellence on a global stage, striving for greater recognition and success in the world of competitive marathons.

Some of the major roads in the Rwandan capital will be closed so as to ensure the safety of athletes throughout the event.
According to the police statement released on Saturday, June 8, the roads BK-Arena-Gishushu-MTN-Baho Hospital (turning point)-KCC roundabout-Umubano hotel-USA Ambassador's residence (turning point)-KBC-Kabindi-Primature roundabout-KBC- Rugando-KCC-Gishushu-Chez Lando-Zigama, CSS-Regina Pacis-Simba Kimironko-MIC-BK Arena are temporarily closed since Saturday 10:30PM until Sunday 3:30PM.
Kenyans dominated the 2023 edition winning 10 gold medals out of possible 12. Among the winners was Winfridah Moseti Moraa who got gold in the women's half marathon after crossing the finish line at BK Arena with a time of 1:12:40.
The race promises to even more competitive one considering the fact that this edition has attracted a host of golden label athletes in both men and women categories.
Some of them include Sevilla Marathon 2022 runner-up Adeladlew Mamo (Ethiopia) and his cousin Mare Dibaba, a 2015 Women's World Marathon Champion, among others.
