The 2020 edition of the inter-school chess tournament starts Saturday at Classic Hotel in Kigali, the local chess governing body (Ferwade) has announced.
Speaking to this publication on Friday, Ferwade president Kevin Ganza revealed that winners of last year’s event, GS Kimisange, had registered two teams, as they hoped to retain their title.
In local inter-schools tournaments, each team comprises five players. A school can field more than one team.
Last year’s runners-up, Green Hills Academy, have again registered their best single team while Lycée Notre Dame de Cîteaux (LNDC), last year’s number three, will field three teams.
Gashora Girls Academy has also registered three teams.
Other schools that had registered by press time Friday afternoon included Kigali International Community School, Kagarama Secondary School, and GS Mburabuturo.
