Rwanda’s run

Mar 3 -Rwa lost to Sierra Leone by 7 wickets

Exposure is about everything Rwanda’s U-19 cricket team has gained from the International Cricket Council U-19 World Cup qualifiers in Mozambique.

Rwanda marched into the competition chasing for the sole slot at stake for the final World Cup qualifiers in Zambia next month but the team’s awful batting performances had the country’s hopes blown away after back to back defeats against Ghana and the hosts.

Rwanda salvaged some pride after a commanding 60-run win over under-dogs Gambia but soon crumbled to her third defeat after Tuesday’s seven wicket loss against Sierra Leone.

Rwanda vs Ghana

Rwanda won the toss and elected to bowl. Ghana was bundled out for a seemingly paltry 76 runs thanks to Jules Ishimwe’s spectacular bowling figures of 4 for 1.

Eric Dusabemungu (2 for 4) and Evode Mutuyimana (4 for 26) were also impressive.

Rwanda vs Mozambique

Mozambique managed to piece together 103 all out on the final ball of the 35 over shorten game.

Skipper Rodriquez kept the inning together with an unbeaten 24runs.

Audifax Byiringiro and Jules Dusabe both picked up three wickets on a tricky pitch.

In reply the Rwandan team were restricted to 80 all out in 25 overs.

Rwanda’s down fall was the loss of the last six wickets for only 10 runs

Rwanda vs Gambia

Against Gambia, Rwanda’s skipper Andre Kayitera proved why he is one of the best cricketers in the country.

The all-rounder scored 37 runs to help Rwanda post a defendable score of 112.

He also returned impressive bowling figures of 6 for 25 to restrict Gambia to 52 runs consequently scooping the ‘man of the match’ award.

Rwanda vs Sierra Leone

Against Sierra Leone, Rwanda posted her lowest score in the tournament after being bowled out for 33runs. With such low score to chase, the West Africans only lost two wickets before sailing home at 34 for 2.

Rwanda wrapped up their campaign yesterday with a game against Swaziland.
