Senator George Mupenzi has stepped down from his legislative seat, according to a short statement that the Senate of Rwanda issued on June 7.
On June 6, the President of the Senate "received the resignation letter of Mupenzi George from his position as a Senator for personal reasons,” reads the statement.
Mupenzi, who was born on September 18, 1956 according to his profile on the Parliament website, was a Senator since 2018.
He holds a bachelor's degree in law.
Before joining the Senate, Mupenzi held different functions including being the Coordinator of Centre IWACU (Center of Research and Training in Cooperatives) — a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of social and economic justice through worker collectives and cooperative training and research programmes.
He was also once a Personal Assistant of the Minister of Public Service and Labour; and Technical Advisor of the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour.
