After APR walloped relegation candidates La Jeunesse 8-0 on Tuesday, league leaders Atraco had much to play for last evening as they hosted Kibuye at Ferwafa grounds.

Kibuye known for its giant-killer instincts did not leave up to their tag as they succumbed to a 5-0 thumping.   

The win kept Atraco’s one point grip at the top of the league table and their hopes of securing a second successive title on track.

Ugandan imports Johnson Bagoole and Hamis Kitagenda recorded a brace each while the league top marksman increased on his goal tally to 14 thanks to a 23rd minute strike.

The victory extended Atraco’s lead to 37 points, one ahead of nine times league winner APR.

APR started the rout as they battered relegation side La Jeunesse 8-0 on Tuesday to keep themselves on the title hunt after a 1-0 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Rayon Sport over the weekend.

Ndoli Bokungu, Kabange Twite and Amavubi midfielder Mbuyu Twite found the net twice each while Elias Uzamukunda and Hegman Ngoma scored a piece each to leave La Jeunesse rooted at the foot of the league table with 11 points.

The win kept APR in the second position with 36 points one point ahead of Rayon Sport.

Rayon Sport also managed a victory over Amagaju at Nyamirambo stadium on Tuesday.

National team recall, Jimmy Gatete, Yusuf Ndayishimiye and APR tormentor Theoneste Muhayimana were on target for the Blues.

In another twist that could see a finale end to the league, SC Kiyovu recorded its fourth win of the season as the defeated mid-table Police 2-0 yesterday at Nyamirambo stadium.

The relegation battle could now go down to the wire as Police, AS Kigali, Kibuye, Amagaju, Marines, Kiyovu are only separated by two points.

In other matches played, AS Kigali stunned Electrogaz 3-1 at Kicukiro on Tuesday.

National novice Pappy Gasana opened the scoring for MVK side before before Pablo Nduwimana helped himself to a brace.

Hamad Ruzinga netted Electrogaz’s consolation goal.

Mukura was held to a goalless draw by Marines in Butare.

The national football league will resume in early April after the national football team, the Amavubi Stars play Algeria in the third and final round of the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers which get underway on March 28.
