This year’s first edition of the Kigali Jazz Junction brought a groovy experience for jazz lovers as Nigeria’s fast-rising artiste Joeboy performed in Kigali for the first time.

The monthly jazz show has made a name for itself as one of the biggest musical events in Kigali, having featured some of Africa’s biggest names like Congolese star Awilo Longomba, Zimbabwe’s parted icon Oliver Mtukudzi, South African songstress Zahara, and Nigeria’s Johnny Drille.

The well-attended show that took place at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (former Camp Kigali) began early as gates were opened by 6:30 pm. Neptunez Band began the show with their live performances before opening the stage for the lineup artists.

Davis D, real name, David Icyishaka who has won the hearts of many with his hit song ‘Dede’ was welcomed on stage with cheers. In a semi-live performance, he took the audience through his songs that included ‘Soso’, Biryogo and ‘Sexy’ that got the crowd singing and dancing along.

They, however, went wild when the afro-beat singer performed ‘Dede’ causing the youthful crowd to pull off their dance moves.

An hour later, Joeboy, real name, Joseph Ankifewa Donus,  got on the stage, amid loud cheers. The singer rose to fame last year, under the tutelage of Mr. Eazi, with the release of his single ‘Faaji’.

Like Davis D, the Nigerian singer performed all his songs back to back, leading the crowd into loud cheers.

Donning a burgundy velvet shirt and blue jeans, Joeyboy engaged his fans that also included young children, often calling some of them to perform with him as they, in turn, expressed their love for ‘Baby’ hitmaker.

They took to the stage to dance with the singer, while others used the chance to take selfies.

Another highlight of the show was when upcoming artist, Bosco Niyo, attracted the attention of many when he performed for the audience. Real name Bosco Niyokwizera, the visually impaired artiste sang a number of songs, from various artists before performing his own ‘Ibanga’ and ‘Ubigenze Ute.’

The show ended a few minutes past midnight as revelers left the venue satisfied people.
