Following a humble start to the Tour du Rwanda 2020, Colombian Valencia Jhonatan Restrepo has boosted his podium credentials after another stunning performance in Friday’s Stage 6 win.

The 127.3km ride set off from Musanze, Northern Province, and concluded in Muhanga, Southern Province, via Ngororero.

Riding for Italian side Androni Giocattoli, the 25-year old again timed his sprint to claim his third victory and two in a row after, also, winning Stage 3 and 5 on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Restrepo, who finished 46th in the opening stage on Sunday, is now seventh overall, 2 minutes and 48 seconds off Yellow Jersey custodian Natnael Tesfazion, of Eritrea.

In the meantime, Rwanda’s second-placed Moise Mugisha, representing debutants Skol Adrien Cycling Academy (SACA), has reduced the gap to the top to 68 seconds ahead of the last two stages, including Saturday’s 4.5km prologue at the infamous Wall of Kigali.

The 22-year old, who finished eighth in Stage 6, started the day trailing leader Tesfazion by 2 minutes and 11 seconds. Again, he kept the best Rwandan rider jersey, while the Eritrean maintained the RwandAir Jersey for the best African rider.

Youngster Eric Manizabayo finished in 11th position, while former winners Samuel Mugisha and Joseph Areruya followed in 12th and 13th position, respectively.

After six stages, the riders have now covered 795.2 kilometres of the 889 making this year’s race.

The final two stages, Saturday and Sunday, take place in the capital.
