Teen’s Hype: Break free!

I still remember a trip I once took to the National Park. I saw many animals that day all so beautiful but it was the elephants that really amazed me.

As I passed by them, I suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages but a small rope!

For some reason, they just stayed there held by a small rope. I wondered why they did not just break away. I remember asking their trainer why these elephants made no attempt to get away.

He said, "When they are very young and much smaller we used the same size rope to tie them and at that age, it was enough to hold them. As they grow older, they still believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

I was amazed at the fact that these huge animals could at any time break free but they just did not know. Like the elephants, some of us go through life hanging onto a belief that we cannot do achieve anything, simply because we failed once before.

Every time we try to do something, we are held back by the fear of failing. We need to rise above our past failures and try again and again until we succeed. A positive way of looking at failure is that it is another way of not doing something.

Changing our lives whether at school or else where is determined by our drive to keep trying what we have failed to do before. Know that any attempt you make is always a risk.

You can win or lose but it is the attempt that counts. Even though your attempt may fail but never fail to make an attempt.
