RUSIZI  — World Relief an international NGO last Friday donated an assortment of scholastic materials and sports equipment to pupils of Bugumira and Nkombo Primary Schools on Nkombo island, in Rusizi district.

The donation included exercise books, pens, pencils, mathematical sets and over 10 soccer and net balls.

Addressing pupils and staff, Albert Nzacahinyeretse, the World Relief field officer in Rusizi, called upon pupils to strive to excel academically and to work hard in their daily chores.

"Due to their location on this island, we (World Relief) chose to donate those scholastic materials because the pupils at these schools are somehow isolated compared to other schools within this district,” Nzacahinyeretse told The New Times in an interview shortly after handing over the donation.

He also asked the pupils to fight against HIV/Aids by avoiding premarital sex. He urged the pupils to love one another and to fight any divisionism amongst them.

At the same function, World Relief also donated clothes to vulnerable women.

Deborah Kankera, the Sector vice Executive Secretary thanked World Relief for the donation and called upon them to continue their collaboration with the sector.

She asked the pupils to focus on their future and to always encourage their parents to participate in all government programmes.
