Sunday
Women’s final The Hoops Vs IPRC–South 18:00
Men’s final REG Vs APR 20:00
APR men’s basketball team will be looking to end their jinx for trophies when they face Rwanda Energy Group (REG) in this year’s final of the annual Heroes Cup on Sunday.
The game starts 8pm, at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.
Once a regional powerhouse and the most dominant side in local basketball, APR have not won any notable title since the 2011 Playoff Games.
Aimé Karim Nkusi’s APR booked their berth into the title decider after APR ousting 2017 winners IPRC–Kigali 88-80, while REG reached their third consecutive Heroes Cup final following their 100-89 win over Espoir in Friday’s semi-finals.
REG, also winners of the 2018 edition, clinched last year’s title after beating rivals Patriots 92-72 in the final.
Meanwhile, in the women’s category, holders the Hoops Rwanda will be up against IPRC–South who were the tournament’s 2018 winners. Kick-off 6pm.
Across different disciplines, Heroes Cup tournaments are organised by their respective federations in partnership with the Chancellery for Heroes, National Orders and Decorations of Honour (CHENO).
Besides basketball, Heroes Cup events have also been organised in cycling, football, golf, tennis, and handball to name a few.
