A record 12 women football clubs have been confirmed to take part in this year’s national women league which gets underway on Sunday.

According to the country’s football governing body, Ferwafa, the national women league will help in assembling a strong national team which will start to be engaged in regional and continental competitions this year.

The confirmed clubs include: APR, Rayon Sport, Gakenke, Inyemera, Remera, Rubavu, Musanze, AS Kigali, ASPEJ, La Charite, Bugesera and Les Lionnes.

Defending champions APR open their campaign against Musanze at Kicukiro grounds while Inyemera entertain AS Kigali in Byumba.

Newly formed Rayon Sport host Les Lionnes at their Rugunga ground.
