After yet another dominant win over Uganda last evening, Rwanda’s women basketball side is now one win away from qualifying for the Fiba-African Basketball Championship due in Madagascar later in the year.

Honore Ayebare scored a game high 28 points and 10 assists while Laetitia and Mireille Karangwa added 23 and 15 points respectively to lead the host to their fourth consecutive win.

Frances Nabulobi and Akullo Rebecca scored in double figures for Uganda with 13 points apiece as they succumbed to their second defeat in four games.

The home team dominated their smaller opponents, taking the first three quarters 21-11, 26-24 and 24-12 but the Ugandans rallied to narrowly take the fourth quarters 17-18.

Now Kavedzija Vacescav girls go into today’s game with Kenya needing to win to be sure of a place in the Fiba-Africa Women Basketball championship with still a game to play against Burundi tomorrow.

After the game, the Croatian trainer said, "We’re on the right track for qualification and I’m quite confident that we shall make.”

About the Kenyans, he said "Kenya are a very good team and it’s going to be difficult against them but I believe we shall finish off the job we started.”

It’s will be a double header for Vacescav against the Kenyans as after the women’s game, he also must lead his men in the last game of the day, a game the hosts need to win to be on the safe side of qualifying for the Fifa-Africa Men’s Basketball championship due in Libya.

In yesterday other games, Kenyan men and women beat their Burundian counterparts 80-59 and 57-29 respectively.
