Saturday AS Kigali 0-0 Rayon Marines 2-0 Gasogi Muhanga 0-1 Gicumbi
RAYON Sports were held to a goalless draw by strugglers AS Kigali on Saturday at Kigali Stadium as their hopes of retaining the Rwanda Premier League title took another big blow.
Following the draw, APR could now open up a six-point lead should the army side see off Bugesera on Sunday afternoon. The game starts 3pm at Kigali Stadium.
With a game in hand, Mohamed Adil Erradi’s APR have 38 points, three ahead of reigning champions Rayon while Police – who were held to 1-1 draw by Musanze on Friday – are third with 34 points.
In Saturday’s stalemate, Rayon did not cause any major trouble to the Peace Cup holders as they were once again subdued. They lost 2-0 to bitter rivals APR just before the festive break, and narrowly beat Gasogi United 1-0 last weekend.
The Blues could have scored through second-half substitute Ernest Sugira, Yannick Bizimana and skipper Eric Rutanga but they failed to break down a solid AS Kigali defence that shielded well former Rayon Sports captain Eric ‘Bakame’ Ndayishimiye in goal.
This was Rayon’s fifth draw – and seventh time they have dropped points – after 17 matches into the 2019/2020 season.
In other matches, Marines beat Gasogi 2-0 at Umuganda Stadium, while Gicumbi upset AS Muhanga 1-0 at Muhanga Stadium.
The weekend action continues Sunday with Mukura fourth-placed Mukura hosting Sunrise at Huye Stadium, Etincelles take on Heroes at Umuganda Stadium, while SC Kiyovu delight Espoir at Mumena Stadium.
