RWANDA women beach volleyball teams have secured tickets to the second round of qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games following their victories over Kenya and Uganda.
The country is represented by two teams at the three-day Sub-Zone 5 qualifiers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, which come to a climax on Sunday afternoon.
In a telephone interview on Saturday, head coach Christophe Mudahinyuka told Sunday Sport that he was happy to see his teams progressing to the second round with a game to spare against hosts Tanzania.
"I am very happy for my ladies, but I was not surprised by what they accomplished. I had confidence in both teams,” said Mudahinyuka.
He added: "We are facing Tanzania on Sunday, and it’s also a must-win.”
Rwanda confirmed its slot in the second round on Saturday after dominating Uganda in straight sets 21-17 21-13, having the previous day overcame Kenya.
After the ongoing first round, the second round is due next month. The best teams in the second round will then qualify for this year’s African Championships in June.
By press time Friday, the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) was yet to determine host countries for the second-round qualifiers.
