Shakira Niyomuhoza scored 46 runs while Henriette Ishimwe picked 3 wickets as Rwanda beat Botswana in the ongoing Kwibuka T20 Women International tournament on Saturday at Gahanga cricket stadium.

It was a third successive conformable victory for coach Leornad Nhamburo's team, and they won this one by 76 runs to remain top of the eight-team round-robin tournament table, ahead of Uganda, who beat Zimbabwe to move into second. Debutants Zimbabwe dropped to third.

Captain Marie Diane Bimenyimana won the toss and opted to bat, then the hosts went on to score 132 for seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

The top four batters Bimenyimana, Merveille Uwase, Gisele Ishimwe and Shakira won the game for the hosts and defending champions.

Shakira, batting at number four, top-scored for Rwanda with 46 runs including eight fours and a six off 28 balls before she was caught by Pako Mapotsane off the bowling of Shameelah Mosweu.

Shakira was ably supported by Gisele Ishimwe, at number 3 (25 off 38), openers Bimenyimana (17 off 17) and Merveille Uwase (18 off 21).

Shadrack Tuelo was the pick of the Zimbabwe bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for just five runs in four overs. She took the wicket of Bimenyimana, Ishimwe and Alice Ikuzwe, who was bowled for a duck off two balls.

In reply, Botswana were all out for 58 runs in 19.4 overs. Only Mosweu reached double figures for the southern African team with 10 runs off 12 balls.

Amantle Mokgotlhe (7 off 18), Oretile Kgeresi (5 off 12), Laura Mophakedhi (5 off 12) and Mapotsane (5 off 12) were the other notable scorers for Botswana.

Ishimwe led Rwanda' blowers with 3 wickets in 3.4 overs, while Rosine Irera also took 3 wickets in four overs and Ikuzwe picked 2 in four overs.

Elsewhere, Uganda reaffirmed their position as tournament favorites with a resounding 75-run win against Zimbabwe.

Batting first, Ugandan top order batters were in top form with the opener Immaculate Nakisuyi scoring half a century (52 off 42 balls).

Proscovia Alamo, at number 3 also notched a quick-fire 62 runs off 41 balls. Her knock included nine fours and two sixes. Stephanie Nampiina added 23 off 23, while Janet Mbababi (at number 2) scored 17 off 16.

The usual dependable Zimbabwe captain Kelis Ndlovu only picked the wicket of Mbabazi and was out for a golden duck, caught by Rita Musamali off the bowling of Sarah Walazi, who finished with 3 wickets for four runs in 3 overs.

Patricia Malemikia took two wickets for 23 runs in four overs and Immaculate Nandera also picked two wickets for 35 in four over for 35 runs.

It was such a bad day at the office for Zimbabwe, who had Christina Mutasa and Kelly Kudzai, with 15 runs each as their top scorers. Pasipanodya Runyararo (12 off 21) and Terasia Chiyedza (11 off 9) were the other notable scorers.

Meanwhile, there were also wins for Kenya and Nigeria, who meet in the only game of the day on Sunday, at Gahanga International Cricket Stadium, starting at 9:45am.

On Saturday, Kenya beat tournament debutants and underdogs Malawi by 33 runs. The East African side batted first, put on 106 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs and Malawi were all out for 73 in 20 over for 7 wickets.

Cameroon, making the first appearance at the 10th Kwibuka T20 Women tournament, registered the lowest score of this year's competition when they were all out for just 26 runs in 18.2 overs.

Nigeria raced to the lowly target in 3.5 overs, thereby winning the contest by a whopping 9 wickets to move onto four place with 4 points from 2 matches. Victory for then on Sunday against Kenya will take them level with Zimbabwe on third.
