Police head coach Francis Haringingo has vowed to work hard towards winning as many games as possible in his side’s remaining 14 matches in the Rwanda Premier season.

The Burundian tactician says he is confident that guiding Police to their first league glory is possible, and has urged his players not to lose focus in the race.

The rallying call comes after Police were held by mid-table side Sunrise to a 2-all draw over the weekend, making it their sixth draw this term.

After 16 matches into the 2019/2020 season, Police have lost only once in what has been one of the club’s best run in a league campaign.

"It is still possible for us to win the title, and we – players and technical bench – are committed to making it happen. We are firmly focused on the remaining matches, one at a time, and we see what happens,” said the former Mukura head coach.

"We still got a chance and we must fight until the end.”

In Sunday’s draw, Nigerian striker Samson Babua scored twice for Sunrise, while Rwanda international Justin Mico also netted a brace for the law enforcers side.

But, despite the setback, Police are third with 33 points, only five behind leaders and record 17-time champions APR. Defending champions Rayon Sports are second with 34 points.

"I know the title race is still open, but it is very hard to win it if one stumbles a lot along the way. We need to style up and build winning momentum. Dropping points to small teams has to end.”

In their next fixture, Police host Musanze on Friday at Kigali Stadium, and victory would see them cut the gap to the top to two points ahead of APR’s crunch against Djuma Masudi’s Bugesera on Sunday – same venue.

After 19 years in Rwanda Premier League, Police are yet to halt the traditional dominance of local heavyweights APR and Rayon Sports.

The closest Police have ever come to the league title was during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 campaigns when they finished as runners-up to APR.
