KARONGI — Four men in Karongi district were last week arrested by security officials while selling caps bearing the old national flag.

Police identified the suspects as J.D Nkurunziza, Claude Ndimubandi, Nepo Habarugira and Jean Pierre Ayabagabo, all residents of Rwankuba Sector.

They were reportedly caught red -handed while selling the caps in Rwankuba market in Karongi. Speaking at a security meeting on Wednesday, the Mayor, Bernard Kayumba said the incidence breached the country’s laws.

The quartet reportedly had 300 caps, and they argued that they had bought them from another whole seller in Rubavu District who they identified as Grace Akimpaye.

The Mayor ordered for swift investigations of all those involved, saying the culprits were trying to drag the country back to its dark past. He also urged residents to always report such cases.

The meeting also acknowledged the good work done by the joint Rwanda- DR Congo military offensive which has led to repatriation of FDLR rebels and other Rwandan civilians.

The Mayor asked residents to warmly receive the returnees pointing out that it strengthens the country’s reconciliation process.
