The ongoing Miss Rwanda 2020 auditions on Saturday, saw six contestants given the green light to represent the Northern Province in the competition.

Held at La Palme Hotel in Musanze District, the auditions kicked off at around 3.30pm, about two hours late from the set time (1pm) due to the monthly Community service ‘Umuganda’ that delayed the team behind the beauty pageant and press from arriving at the venue on time.

Prior to the event a total of 75 aspirants registered to compete, but only 23 turned up the venue for the auditions.

Unfortunately, only 14 were allowed to compete after the screening as the rest fail to comply with weight and height standards required to take part in the competition.

Contestants had to use at least five minutes or less to impress Mike Karangwa, Evelyne Umurerwa and Jolly Mutesi, the panel of judges to make the best of the limited time to ensure the auditions don’t take long.

Most of the contestants appeared nervous during the question-answer session that the judges from the panel had to make them calm and comfortable.

Kinyarwanda was the most dominant language of expression during the Musanze auditions as over 90 per cent of contestants presented their project in Kinyarwanda.

As time to announce who progressed to the next round of the beauty contest began, Doreen Umuhoza could not control her tears when she heard she was the first to get the ‘Pass’ badge before Phionah Mukabashambo, Braise Tumuhorane, Natasha Umubyeyi, Melisa Urujeni and Rosine Mukangwije, Miss Elegance 2018, followed her to get the note of approval for the contest’s next round.

The next auditions will take place in Huye District next Saturday in the search for the representatives of the Southern Province in the ongoing beauty contest.
