Following a number of complaints over the past months, the team behind The 600 film decided to screen the film in Kigali once again to give chance to those who missed it in July during its week of screening.

Since its premiere in Kigali on July 2019, the film caught the attention of huge numbers of film enthusiasts in Rwanda and has gone on to receive international recognition and awards. And due to popular demand in Rwanda, it is back in cinemas in Kigali on December 29.

Annet Uwizeye, the film co-producer told The New Times that her team decided to re-screen the film in Kigali following a number of demands received from their audience.

"The 600 is back due to public demand, it was good timing because many diaspora are in Rwanda spending their festive season holidays and, though few people might know this, December 28 1993 is the day that The 600 came into Kigali as part of the Arusha Peace Accords,” Uwizeye explained.

The film is a dramatized documentary that tells the story of a group of opposition soldiers trapped behind enemy lines at the outset of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994. It takes us through overcame the seemingly insurmountable.

Uwizeye explained that there has been huge demand because those who managed to watch the film during the July limited release created much curiosity from those who missed out.

"Many tell us that they are eager to watch and even watch it for the second time. We met people who watched it twice or thrice and this proves the timelessness of the film. The attention The 600 has received means a lot, but it also means we are challenged as filmmakers to pursue excellence in our work. The audience are in a sense, our employer and we know when the boss is or isn't satisfied,” she said.

She added, "Being part of such an impactful project is extremely encouraging for the filmmaking fraternity to keep at it”

Before returning to Kigali, the film has previously been screened in Washington DC, United States and Dakar, Senegal. It was also submitted for screening in internationally renowned film festivals in New York, London and Los Angeles.

The screening will run until February 1, 2020.
